How to draw a fashion sketch

Composing a fashion sketch may seem daunting to the novice, but it’s a cinch if you know how. Fashion design student @sobuz_st from Bangladesh shows us how he does it in a step-by-step tutorial.

STEP ONE

Start with a pot-shaped figure, and divide the pot into quarters, curving the horizontal line slightly upwards at the edges.

STEP TWO

The “pot” is, as you may have guessed, the mid-section and upper thighs of the woman. You can refine the shape a little more later.

STEP THREE

Extend the sketch with the rest of the legs.

STEP FOUR

Draw a navel on, and the navel should mark the middle and narrowest point of the waist.

STEP FIVE

Finish the bottom up with shoes, and continue to reshape the legs.

STEP SIX

Draw the upper torso. (Here, the legs have been redrawn apart, but pay attention to keeping the model balanced.)

STEP SEVEN

Continue drawing out the upper body with arms.

STEP EIGHT

Draw out the silhouette of the outfit, and start to embellish the figure with jewelry.

STEP NINE

Continue to form the details of the dress and fabric, paying attention to how the fabric will fall. Congratulations!
